How to send audio messages with the Google Assistant

In this article, we tell you the steps to send voice messages with Google Assistant.

Google Assistant has incorporated audio messages for contacts in its latest update. This feature is available on Google Nest or Home speakers, which broadcast audio messages throughout the house.

Interestingly, if you try to use that feature to message a person, it will only send a text message. To send an audio message of your voice, you will need a different command.

This feature is only available on Android phones and tablets, but audio messages can be sent to any contact, regardless of the type of device they have.

How to send audio messages

1. To get started, start the Assistant by saying “OK, Google” or by swiping from the lower left or right corner.
2. Next, the command to say is “Send an audio message to [Contact name]”. You can say the message immediately after the person’s name, or you can pause and wait.

The Google Assistant may now ask you to clarify which contact you were referring to or to choose a phone number.

If you didn’t say the message with the initial command, the Google Assistant will now ask you to do so. Tap the microphone icon and start speaking.

You will then have the opportunity to listen to the message or delete it before it is sent. If you do nothing, the message will be sent after the circle around the check mark is filled.

The recipient will receive the audio message in the SMS application of their choice. By these easy steps you can send audio messages with the Google Assistant.
